Then there’s the beautiful villages: Collonges la Rouges, Bretenoux, Saint Céré, Curemonte, the chateau Castelnau de Bretenoux, the fantastic vistas from hilltop towns Agentat, Loubressac, Autoire, and Carrenac to name just some close and amazing tourist attractions. It is close to the amazing historical pilgrimage site: Rocamadour and also the incredible cave: Gouffre de Padirac. Swimming, canoeing, hiking and fly-fishing or just relaxing. It also boasts one of the most prolific fishing spots in all of France and attracts people from all over the world to fish the many wonderful species found in the river. It has the most significant church “portal/tympanum” other than Notre Dame (Paris) residing in it and is a stopping off point for pilgrims on their Santiago Compostela journey. ![]() Our house is elegant and exquisitely placed to enjoy the village and it’s many restaurants, patisseries, bars, notwithstanding it’s stunning church, chapel and historical sights, all within easy walking distance. There were then around 100,000 inhabitants, 111 parishes and 1,200 villages. Until 1738, the Vicomté de Turenne extended over a third of the lower Limousin, upper Quercy and Périgord Sarladais. Our Cottage in Beaulieu is located in a larger village that has a medieval concentric historical area near the banks of the Dordogne with our historic apartment within these walls. Turenne, superb medieval village, is located 15 km south of Brive-la-Gaillarde and is one of the most beautiful villages in France. ![]() Both villages are beautiful but quite different. ![]() It is located in the Department of the Corrèze, Limousin/Lot Region of France a hundred kms east of our Berbiguières cottage which is located in the Périgord-Dordogne Department, Aquitane Region. Beaulieu Sur Dordogne is one of the most attractive medieval villages in France. Among the many options we suggest you follow the Dordogne valley north-east to the town of Argentat, or visit some of the listed 'most beautiful villages' that are close to Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne (Curemonte, Collonges-la-Rouge and Turenne are all to the west and Loubreassac and Autoire to the south).
